2014-2015 tuition increase
Some students will be unhappy to hear that Madonna will be raising tuition costs for the 2014-2015 school year. However, applying for financial assistance could help cut the cost of college.

A “Using Technology to Get Organized” workshop is being held for Madonna students to better use technology and resources to succeed in the classroom.

Crystal Madonna Gala raises scholarship money

Madonna University is set to host its annual gala on April 1 at The Dearborn Inn. The Crystal Madonna Gala is the university’s premier fundraiser for student scholarships. This event will feature Carolyn Woo, President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, as well as the stories of eight students and how scholarships changed their lives.

Staying safe on campus
While Madonna University takes pride in their efforts to keeping students safe on campus, it remains impossible to steer clear of all incidents. Students are urged to grasp certain safety precautions that will help in minimizing dangerous situations.

Graduate school offers discounts for undergrads

Music students excel in singing competition
In February, the Great Lakes Regional National Association Teachers of Singing competition occurred at Ball State University. Two Madonna University music majors, Mark Istratie, and Carrick Secorski placed third in their categories. Also, two other Madonna University music majors Lauren Mallie, and Alyson Dolan received high scores last November at the district level.

In early April, Madonna will hold its 2nd annual Spring Career Fair. Students looking for jobs or in the market for an internship are encouraged to attend.

I-96 construction starts April 5
Due to weather conditions, the I-96 construction will be pushed back a week. The project is expected to take about six months to complete.

Twenty Crusader student leaders took a trip to Grand Rapids in February to further develop their leadership skills.

Fundraiser for Seedlings Braille Books for Children

From noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, in the Franciscan Center Gathering Space students are invited to help raise funds for Seedlings Braille Books for Children. Students, staff, and faculty can donate from a few dollars to $10. If you can’t make the April 8 lunch, don’t worry, there will be collection points on Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10 in both the Take-5 Lounge and Franciscan Center Gathering Space.

Bowling for Scholars to take place in May
On May 16, Madonna University is helping graduate students continue their education by hosting Bowling for Scholars at Woodland Lanes. This event is crucial because less scholarship money is awarded to graduate students than undergraduate. Also, scholarships are far more competitive for those completing their graduate degree. Gather your team, and help raise money for graduate school scholarships, so students who achieve academic excellence can be awarded financially.

'Once Upon a Mattress' to show in Kresge Hall

Blazo helps lead Crusaders to compete at a 'very high level'

Freshman golfer Natalie Blazo took up golf at a young age and has not looked back. She won the individual state championship in her senior year at Dearborn Divine Child High School and since coming to MU continues to improve her game. The transition from high school golf to college golf wasn’t easy at first but she is settling into her role. The freshman has even played at the No. 1 position in several events for the Crusaders this year.


Melcher continues to rack up career milestones and accolades

With the Madonna women’s basketball’s team season ending early in the conference tournament, one of the bright spots of the 2013-14 season was the success of Rachel Melcher. The junior guard and Academic All-American went from almost not playing college basketball to etching herself into the Madonna record books.

With 10 new players and a new coaching staff, Madonna Softball used the spring break to come together as a team. Records were broken and history was made with exceptional play leading the Crusaders to an 11-4 record.

Colleges and universities offer their student body a wide array of classes.  
Some classes are easy going like yoga; others are hard like calculus.  
However, when many students pick the major they want to study, they may end up having to take yoga or calculus for no reason, besides the fact that the school wants them to.

Paid vs unpaid internships, the debate begins
For some, taking an unpaid internship may be a waste of time and effort. For many years, students have been asking questions if paid internships are better than unpaid. The value employers put on experience and dedication is what matters. So should students limit themselves to paid internships only?
