Madonna grad shares her thoughts about covering the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia
Mimi Whetstone graduated from Madonna University in 2011 and is now covering the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
When Whetstone is not covering figure skating and short track speed skating, she is enjoying the sights and sounds of the Games.
When the events wrap up, Whetstone will return to her full-time job in the communications department of U.S. Figure Skating in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Here's her dispatch from Russia:
Greetings from Sochi, Madonna University students!
It’s been two years since I left the halls of MU to make my way in the world as a product of Neal Haldane’s Journalism/Public Relations and Kevin King’s Sport Management programs.
To start things off, here’s a little bit of what I’ve been up to since graduation, including how I came to write this column from Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia.
For (almost) two years, I've been working in the communications department at U.S. Figure Skating in Colorado Springs, Colo. I write for SKATING magazine and icenetwork, put out press releases, handle media operations at events, set up interviews with the athletes and teach junior media training, just to name a few of my primary responsibilities. While I am NOT in Sochi with U.S. Figure Skating, it was my position there that got me here.
