While stories about current events in the undergraduate part of the school dominate the conversation, Madonna’s Graduate Program flies under the radar. A diverse and growing aspect of the University should be highlighted for prospective students.

Last semester, the Grad school hosted “Grad Night,” an opportunity for alumni, current and incoming graduate students to mingle with newbies learning about the ins and outs of the program. Melanie Minch, Admissions Officer, The Graduate School, said the night was a great success with more than 55 students attending and more than a dozen turning in entrance applications.

“Attendees were given the opportunity to network with alumni from their programs as well as meet with a career counselor if needed,” said Minch. “Grad Night is also an appreciation event for current grad students.”

Prospectives had an opportunity to mingle with representatives and faculty as well, while learning about the expanding list of degrees offered. There are graduate programs in almost a dozen fields including business, education, nursing and more. “Attendees were given the opportunity to network with alumni from their programs as well as meet with a career counselor if needed,” said Minch.

Folks from Career Services were on hand as well to support the real-world advice from grad school alumni who mingled with students and swapped tips.

The evening not only offered great networking, but also giveaways and free stuff! Minch said the free gift this year was a lunch cooler for toting around school and work. Attendees were entered in a drawing to win a $25 or $50 dollar gas card.

This was a great opportunity for students to learn about furthering their career with continued specialized education in their job field.

The next Grad Night will be in fall 2013, but there is a Grad Day coming up in March 2013, that’s styled after an open house. Information about the application process will be provided and faculty will be available to answer questions.
