If you and your friends think McDonald’s or Taco Bell are the only affordable options to cure summer hunger, think again. With only a few dollars in your pocket, you can eat well without emptying your wallet. The best part is, you can sit and enjoy each other’s company instead of prying into a bag of fries on the road.

One hot spot this summer is one of my all-time favorites, Champps Americana Restaurant, more commonly known as Champps. Located in Livonia on Haggerty north of Seven Mile, Champps offers an array of American cuisine. Skip the Big Mac on Monday’s and replace it with the all-day special of handcrafted burgers and fries for $5.99.

Is your stomach growling a little closer to bedtime? Sunday-Friday Champps also offers half-off appetizers after 10 p.m. Warm up with some spinach artichoke dip or indulge in quesadillas.

Feel like something fanciery? You may not think Bravo! Cucina Italiana on Haggerty goes hand-in-hand with your student loans, but chances are you’ll be just fine. Just sit at the bar Monday-Friday from 3-7 or 9-close and enjoy bar bites for $2.95. Bar bites are an appetizer-size of your favorite dishes, including Cheese Ravioli Al Forno and Pepperoni Flatbread.

If you don’t feel like sitting at the bar and fancy a nice dinner out in the dining room area, sign up for “Get the Dish” at Macaroni Grill’s website, macaronigrill.com to receive an instant $5 coupon. They’ll send you periodic emails including specials and new menu items, and after you use the coupon you can feel free to forward further emails to your Spam Folder - just kidding.

Ready to skip all the cuisines and just have some good old-fashioned pizza? You don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for that either. If you’re hungry, skip California Pizza Kitchen. They’ll put their hand pretty deep in your pocketbook, and leave you hungry, too. (Unless you request more and more free bread, which could be fun).

Instead, try Buddy’s Pizza on Plymouth Road, a city-wide favorite for 66 years. Visit buddyspizza.com and click on the ongoing link, “Save Dough, Print Coupons.” After you print out your 8 by 11” sheet of coupons, click on the link to join their email club and Buddy’s will send you an additional $5 voucher, and a free pie on your birthday!

Are you and your friends hungry for dinner and dessert? On Wednesdays, there’s no reason to pay for both. Visit your local Max and Erma’s and receive two hot and gooey chocolate chip cookies with a purchase of any menu item. Stop by the bar Monday-Friday between 4-7 and enjoy $5 munchies, too.

These are just some of many great offers that are available for you to take advantage of. If you are not already familiar with Groupon, make sure to visit groupon.com and sign up to receive their daily offers. Purchasing and utilizing their daily deals is as easy as 1-2-3.
Make sure to check out your favorite restaurant’s website or search the net for coupons as well. There’s nothing wrong with handing your server a coupon to save a few of your hard-earned bucks, just make sure to tip them off the original bill.
