The craft of movie-making is no longer mean for Hollywood professionals. Instead, Hollywood came to Madonna University for a week thanks to Project Accessible Hollywood (PAH-fest), where all sorts of people got to tell their stories using digital media.

Spring Career Fair brought job opportunities for students
Forty different companies attended Madonna’s Spring Career Fair and over 200 students took the opportunity to network with them. Career fairs are beneficial for both students and businesses. It gives businesses the exposure they need and gives students the chance to practice interview skills, make a good impression, and find a job or internship.
Blood Drive set Sept. 24, 25

Study Abroad opportunities abound in 2015

As 2014 rolls to an end, the Center for Study Abroad at Madonna University is in preparation for a dozen of new and exciting travel abroad programs.
Destinations for 2015 include the Galapagos Islands, Italy, and Spain.

Students research, promote Detroit pop-ups

Madonna University students received a $2,500 grant that was used to fund a student-led faculty guided class project regarding pop-up businesses in Southwest Detroit. The students hosted a pop-up event June 11 to promote six local pop-up shops as part of the project.   

New deans take helm in Business, Nursing and Humanities
Retirements reduced the ranks of deans at Madonna University during the 2013-14 school year. 
This summer, the College of Nursing and Health named Deborah Vargo as the new Dean. The School of Business selected Cleamon Moorer Jr., and the College of Arts and Humanities installed Kathleen Edelmayer. 
Vargo comes to Madonna from Lourdes University in Ohio. 
Moorer previously worked at Kettering University.
Edelmayer was chair of the Communication and Writing department at Madonna. 

Students attend leadership summit

Twenty Crusaders leaders took a trip to Grand Rapids in February to further develop their leadership skills. 
Along the way, the students also experienced personal growth they can apply to all aspects of life and learned lessons they can take back to their on-campus organizations for the betterment of the university as a whole.

AQUA brings fine dining to Plymouth

The restaurant opened earlier this year and is a bit expensive, but the meals and serve were good.
In addition, patrons receive a free bottle of wine when you dine at AQUA of Plymouth on your birthday or anniversary.

Healthy eating between classes at Hommus Express
If you enjoy healthy, fresh food selections, but are tired of campus food, check out Hommus Express on Six Mile and Newburgh.  With lots of options on the menu for any diner it is worth a visit.

Dinner, dancing promote social justice

The recent Black and White Ball, hosted by the Peace and Justice group, raised awareness of human trafficking in Michigan. 
Proceeds from the ball benefited the Michigan Abolitionist Project (MAP), a group focused on ending modern-day slavery in Michigan.

With two weeks of games under their belt, the Madonna Volleyball team is very optimistic about their 2014-15 season.  The loss of four key seniors from last season has been balanced out with five newcomers who are proving to be a great addition to the team.


The Madonna Crusaders cross-country teams completed their first race in Northville earlier this month, 
The men and women earned a C- according to the coach, but he and the runners look forward to upcoming season.

Study Abroad works for all

An awesome thing about the study abroad trips is that students can receive many credits in a shorter period of time and the tuition is one-third the price when studying abroad.  I took the chance to receive six credits toward my degree on the trip I chose.  What a way to save some money and have an experience that could not be achieved in a classroom, in my opinion. 
 


Service: A genuine desire to brighten someone else’s day

Everyone chooses to serve for different reasons. They may have been inspired by someone else, find a cause close to their heart, or simply want to do what they can to help out another. Regardless of the reason, all service should be completed from the heart, from the desire to make a positive impact in the life of someone else.

Paid vs unpaid internships, the debate begins
For some, taking an unpaid internship may be a waste of time and effort. For many years, students have been asking questions if paid internships are better than unpaid. The value employers put on experience and dedication is what matters. So should students limit themselves to paid internships only?
