President to step down in 2015

Sister Rose Marie Kujawa announced that she will be stepping down as president of the university effective June 30, 2015. Preparations for a new president are in the works.  
“It is time for new leadership to implement several visionary plans that are in various stages of development, and to bring fresh ideas to the table,” she said. "Madonna University is a wonderful, wonderful environment filled with wonderful people.  I wish you the very best and know in my heart that 'the best is yet to come.'  I will be here for a full year as a search is conducted and afterward will continue to support Madonna University in any way that I possibly can." 

PAH-fest returns to Madonna

The craft of movie-making is no longer mean for Hollywood professionals. Instead, Hollywood came to Madonna University for a week thanks to Project Accessible Hollywood (PAH-fest), where all sorts of people got to tell their stories using digital media.

Forty different companies attended Madonna’s Spring Career Fair and over 200 students took the opportunity to network with them. Career fairs are beneficial for both students and businesses. It gives businesses the exposure they need and gives students the chance to practice interview skills, make a good impression, and find a job or internship.

Students research, promote Detroit pop-ups

Madonna University students received a $2,500 grant that was used to fund a student-led faculty guided class project regarding pop-up businesses in Southwest Detroit. The students hosted a pop-up event June 11 to promote six local pop-up shops as part of the project.

The recent Black and White Ball, hosted by the Peace and Justice group, raised awareness of human trafficking in Michigan. 
Proceeds from the ball benefited the Michigan Abolitionist Project (MAP), a group focused on ending modern-day slavery in Michigan.

Lyric Theatre's production recently performed  Once Upon a Mattress in Kresge Hall, and the results were great.
As most of the lead actors of Once Upon a Mattress were either Vocal Performance, Theatre, or Music majors, the singing and acting were excellent.

40, a pro-life documentary, comes to Madonna
40, a documentary on abortion made to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision comes to Madonna University, and brings both students and visitors with it.  Read on for some good insights on a controversial subject.

Sports

Blazo helps lead Crusaders to compete at a 'very high level'

Freshman golfer Natalie Blazo took up golf at a young age and has not looked back. She won the individual state championship in her senior year at Dearborn Divine Child High School and since coming to MU continues to improve her game. The transition from high school golf to college golf wasn’t easy at first but she is settling into her role. The freshman has even played at the No. 1 position in several events for the Crusaders this year.


Madonna softball recaps season as postseason nears

With the Crusaders regular season finished, their WHAC regular season title hopes are still alive but will need some help from a conference opponent. In a season that saw lots of winning, records broken, and outstanding pitching performances. But Madonna still has a lot of work to do.


Madonna men's golf advances to 
NAIA Championships

After a fifth place regular season MU was able to clinch a spot to the NAIA Championships by winning the WHAC Championship. A group of seniors faced the end of their college careers but got the job done to send the team to Daytona Beach, Fla., to play in the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships.

Study Abroad works for all

An awesome thing about the study abroad trips is that students can receive many credits in a shorter period of time and the tuition is one-third the price when studying abroad.  I took the chance to receive six credits toward my degree on the trip I chose.  What a way to save some money and have an experience that could not be achieved in a classroom, in my opinion. 
 


Service: A genuine desire to brighten someone else’s day

Everyone chooses to serve for different reasons. They may have been inspired by someone else, find a cause close to their heart, or simply want to do what they can to help out another. Regardless of the reason, all service should be completed from the heart, from the desire to make a positive impact in the life of someone else.

Paid vs unpaid internships, the debate begins
For some, taking an unpaid internship may be a waste of time and effort. For many years, students have been asking questions if paid internships are better than unpaid. The value employers put on experience and dedication is what matters. So should students limit themselves to paid internships only?
